With the start of a new year comes the start of a new Goodreads Reading Challenge! And, of course, a bunch of new books from our favorite authors.

Some of the books on my 2018 reading list have deadlines, and some don’t. For example, before the end of January, I’ll have reread all of the Chronicles of Narnia for a college class. (Have I mentioned how much I love the fact that I can take a college class on Narnia? Because I love it a lot.)

But, as far as the books I want to read for fun this coming year, here’s a few from the top of the list:

1. A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L'Engle. If you’ve missed the commercials, the movie based off this book will be coming out on March 9, so we both have time to read the book first.

2. Ready Player One by Ernest Cline. This is another book I intend on reading before the movie comes out on March 30th.

3. Whose Body? by Dorothy L. Sayers. It’s been so long since I’ve read a good mystery novel, I figure she’s a pretty good author to start with.

4. In the Afterlight by Alexandra Bracken. I read the first two of this trilogy a while ago, and then had to stop before finishing because life got busy. But, it’s been on the top of my list for a long time, just waiting for me to have the time to binge read.

5. The Burning Maze by Rick Riordan. This book is the latest in the Trials of Apollo series and will be coming out on May 1.

6. Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier. I loved Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte when I read it in high school, and one of my mentors suggested this one since it seems to be in a similar vein.

7. Life, the Universe, and Everything by Douglas Adams. I started the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy series in 2017 and fell in love with Adams’s writing style. Also, these books are hilarious. Who doesn’t like to laugh at the absurd?

8. The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. I fell in love with his writing style when I read I Am the Messenger (if you haven’t read it, go find it and fall in love. I sure did). One of my friends loves this book so much she could hardly return it to the library since she didn’t want to let it go. I can’t not read it after that.

9. Out of the Silent Planet by C. S. Lewis. I didn’t know this trilogy existed until I came to college and found out exactly the extent of Lewis’s writings at the weekly Lewis Teas I go to, put on by the Center for the Study of Lewis and Friends (if you find yourself in Upland, IN, you should check them out. But, even from afar, you can find them here). But I have heard nothing but good things about the Space Trilogy, and have found myself needing to read it.

10. Cinder by Marissa Meyer. This is another series my friends have been trying to get me to read for as long as I can remember. Hopefully this year I’ll be able to!

What’s on your 2018 reading list? If you have any suggestions for books I should add to my to-read list, let me know! I love talking about books.

Cheers! And Happy New Years!
